Printed by hand onto luxe, oatmeal-colored linen, Gina's fabric patterns range from stag beetles and birds, really all manner of flora and fauna, to abstract check prints and patterns.
Nearly 20 years after cutting her first pattern, she continues to be inspired by vintage textiles and illustrations. "I love studying natural history," notes the chic, outdoor-loving designer, whose clothing and millinery lines have been covered by 7x7 Magazine, the San Francisco Bay Guardian newspaper, the East Bay Express newspaper, and fashion bible Women's Wear Daily. "I draw visual cues from medieval illuminations, turn-of-the-century renderings, 1970s prints, and modern line drawings," she continues, "But a simple trip to Big Sur can be hugely inspirational, too."
About Gina Pericini, Founder/Creative Director
Gina Pericini, Founder and Creative Director of Flock Home Linens, started making bedding and clothing as a teenager — dyeing fabrics, making her own patterns, and crafting bohemian, Holly Hobby-esque items for herself and her friends. Eventually, she began selling her work at various public markets in the Pacific Northwest, including notables such as Oregon 's Portland Saturday Market and the Fremont Market in Seattle, WA.
Then California called. After studying fashion and textile design throughout the Bay Area, Gina launched her eponymous debut collection of hats, all made with her own custom-printed fabrics.
"My bird and bunny prints were great sellers, as were all of my wool houndstooth hats with grosgrain ribbon trim," she notes. "It was so gratifying to get such enthusiastic response from the retail market!" The hat collection sold in over 50 stores nationally, including the big brand American Rag Cie in Los Angeles , as well as top indie boutiques Dema and Minnie Wilde in San Francisco . In 2003, Gina's hats were featured as a "Best Gift Idea" in 7x7 Magazine's holiday issue.
After a time, the hat collection morphed into a 70s-inspired line of cotton jersey owl- and flower-printed tees and tunics, which lasted several seasons. Soon followed a number of tiny collections of vintage-inspired tops, tunics, dresses and jumpsuits, including custom jumpsuits for the legendary Bay Area hip-hop singer Joyo Velarde, as seen with rap star Lyrics Born on an April 2008 episode of the ABC TV talk show "Jimmy Kimmel Live." At this point, the local — and even national — fashion press were already paying attention. Gina's line got written up in the San Francisco Bay Guardian newspaper's annual "Best of the Bay" awards and in the weekly East Bay Express newspaper, as well as an exciting mention in WWD(!) — the national fashion grande dame, Women's Wear Daily.
Whether she's cruising libraries for thick tomes on the natural sciences or simply bicycling through her neighborhood to the sound of bird song, Gina — and her Flock Home Linens line — are all about bohemianism, optimism, and California dreamin’!
